No, Big Walk does not have a single-player mode. You can start a world alone and explore a small part of the island, but the official FAQ says you will not get far because the adventure and its challenges are designed for cooperative multiplayer.

Can You Start Big Walk Alone?
Yes, the game lets one player create a world and walk around briefly. As optional preparation, you can use that time to check controls, graphics, motion-reduction settings, or microphone activity before friends join; this does not create a solo campaign.
Being able to enter the world is not the same as having a supported solo campaign. Big Walk’s official minimum is two players, and its progression is built around people working and communicating together.
Why Does Solo Progress Stop?
Challenges are designed for cooperative multiplayer. Players may need to coordinate actions, exchange information, communicate through the game’s voice or text systems, or occupy different positions.
The official answer does not promise a separate solo puzzle layout, AI teammate, or complete one-player route. Plan for at least one other person if you want to progress through the adventure.
Is There Online Matchmaking?
No. Big Walk does not place you into a public group of strangers. House House describes it as a long-form cooperative game intended for the same group across multiple sessions and recommends organizing people you know—or want to know better—before starting.
This means a solo player cannot rely on a matchmaking queue to supply a required teammate after reaching a cooperative challenge.
How to Start a Two-Player Session
- Choose one person to host; that player will own the save and world progress.
- Have the host start the 2-player version of the world.
- Invite the second player through the platform friends list or share the session Join Code.
- Confirm that both players are loaded into the same world before beginning progression.
- Use the same host when returning to continue that saved journey.
The 2-player world setting changes challenge configurations for the smaller group. It does not stop more friends from joining later, up to the overall limit explained in Big Walk Max Players.
Can You Play Without a Microphone?
Yes. The official FAQ says the in-game text chat has the same intended features and limitations as voice chat, so a two-player group can complete the game using text. Text becomes unavailable across the same kinds of distance or soundproof barriers, and it works with communication items such as walkie-talkies.
Use in-game communication rather than a separate call, because communication restrictions are part of the puzzle design.
What If Your Friend Uses Another Platform?
Big Walk supports crossplay between its supported systems. The host can share a Join Code when the players are not connected through the same platform friends list. Check the Big Walk Crossplay Guide before starting if your group uses different devices.
